Abuelita Conchita is a bilingual series that expands from our familia to yours.
Our overall goal with Abuelita Conchita is to create a educational and comfortable environment for everyone to learn a new language. We understand that the first steps towards your goals are so important.
Cecilia Perez is from Cuidad Juarez Chihuahua Mexico. Cecilia’s family arrived to the Boyle Heights, California in the 1970s when she was 5 years old. Being hispanic and meeting people who understood your background and culture was unheard of in Boyle Heights at the time. One of the experiences Cecilia had was looking for a local panaderia. Cecilia and her mother would typically have a glass of milk and a concha de chocolate before bed in Mexico. The first few years living in Boyle Heights they could not find a local panaderia. The local bakery’s had plenty of cookies, lofts of bread but no conchas.
Cecilia’s goals with Abuelita Conchita is to provide a comfortable environment for kids to learn an additional language through song and games with her hispanic culture.
Jessica Perez was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Jessica’s major influence growing up was spending evenings after school with with her grandmother and great grandmother. Memories of meeting grandma when school was out, waiting for the raspado man to pass by and enjoying grandma’s home cook meals. Jessica’s grandmother was always supportive and encourage her grandkids to continue there education.
Jessica’s goals with Abuelita Conchita is to continue the importance of education in her community and to provide a supportive environment for everyone to have the opportunity to learn another language.
